The Democratic Alliance (DA) sends its heartfelt condolences to the Shabalala family following the passing of the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder Joseph Shabalala. According to media reports, the 78-year-old was suffering from complications from a back surgery in 2012 that left him wheelchair-bound. He passed on this morning at a Pretoria hospital.

The DA pays tribute to this legend who brought the world’s attention to South Africa through his authentic music, that led to the group being honoured five times with the prestigious Grammy awards.

The DA extends its sincere sympathies to the wife, Thokozile Shabalala, family and the whole music fraternity. We hope the group will continue his legacy!

Ulale ngoxolo Mshengu Shabalala!
