-Post Office facility turned into a Shisanyama.
-DA calls on Public Works to investigate.
-Residents deserve facilities that respond to their needs and improve quality of life.
The Democratic Alliance in AbaQulusi has written to the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies , Minister Solly Malatsi calling for an urgent investigation into a Post office in Ward 6 of this municipality that has been turned into a Shisanyama (butchery).
Residents in this community deserve public facilities and services that respond to their needs and improve their quality of life.
It is therefore deeply concerning that the Post Office facility has reportedly been changed from a public service facility into a shisanyama/butchery. This raises serious questions about the decision-making process, consultation with residents, and whether the needs and interests of the community were properly considered.
A Post Office provides an important public service, particularly to residents who rely on accessible postal and related services. The conversion of such a facility into a commercial establishment should not happen without proper transparency, consultation, and accountability.
We have called for an investigation on :
-Who authorised the change in use of the facility?
-Was the Ward 6 community consulted before the decision was taken?
-What process was followed in changing the use of the property?
– Who benefits from the new commercial use of the facility?
Residents deserve answers and transparency. Public facilities must be managed in the best interests of the communities they serve, not converted without proper consultation or accountability.
We call for the matter to be investigated, and all implicated people be held accountable.
