The Democratic Alliance (DA) in eThekwini is deeply concerned that Chatsworth Stadium, a long-standing facility in the heart of the community, is currently grappling with escalating vehicle thefts that are disrupting the residents’ daily routines and sports activities.

Established in the 1950s, the stadium has long served as a vital space for soccer games, school sports, and training sessions. However, recent security concerns are tarnishing its reputation and affecting the safety of those who rely on the facility.

Despite its rich history and cultural significance, the absence of proper lighting and adequate security measures around the stadium has made it increasingly vulnerable to criminal activity. Vehicle thefts have become a persistent issue, leaving locals anxious about their safety while engaging in physical activities or attending events at the venue.

In light of these challenges, the DA has been proactive in addressing the issue by submitting formal recommendations to stadium management. Among these suggestions to ensure security is carrying out their responsibility of 24/hr surveillance, rotation of security guards regularly, secure parking, and regular checks to prevent theft. Additionally, discussions with local authorities, including the Brigadier of Chatsworth Station, have highlighted the need for a stronger SAPS presence in the area. Based on communication with the Brigadier a write-up to the Chatsworth station has acknowledged the concerns on behalf of the community

The Democratic Alliance (DA) remains committed to the safety and well-being of the Chatsworth community. We are collaborating with key stakeholders, including the Arena Park Community Police Forum (CPF), whose tireless efforts in crime prevention have been commendable comprehensive solution must be put in place to address this growing issue and restore trust in the stadium as a safe, accessible space for all.

We urge residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities to ensure that together, we can make Chatsworth Stadium a secure and welcoming environment for everyone.
