Less than a week ago the DA debated a party motion in the house centred around the great achievements by the DA governed uMngeni municipality, juxtaposed to the service delivery failures of the ANC municipalities in KZN, in particular Msunduzi and eThekwini. The debate clearly exposed the ANC and touched a nerve.
In a politically opportunistic response, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal is now having a Premier’s Imbizo in Mpophomeni Howick on Thursday 13 July 2023, entitled “Taking a (sic) action in accelerating service delivery and intervention in uMngeni Local Municipality.”
This reaction by the Premier, using provincial funds, is a clear indication that the ANC have hit an all-time low. The ANC confirms that it has lost touch with the realities of service delivery and local government.
The DA governed uMngeni has clearly exposed the ANC failures.
In just short of two years the uMngeni municipality has made enormous strides in cleaning up the ANC government’s mess in uMngeni. For the very first time, the Municipality has a positive cash balance, wiping out the massive overdraft left by the ANC. For the very first time over 1300 indigent grants have been allocated, compared to the almost 200 during the ANC administration. Potholes are now repaired, streetlights fixed, traffic lights are run on solar energy, verges are maintained, and so the list goes on.
Compare this to the disaster of eThekwini, where infrastructure is at an all-time low, beaches remain closed because of a failed sewage network, millions of Rands in infrastructure grant funding is retuned to national treasury as a result of the inability to spend.
The Premier should use her power effectively and transparently and have an Imbizo in eThekwini and see for herself the absolute failure of her party’s governance.
Premier you can fool the people of this province some of the time, but certainly not all the time.
