The DA notes the supposed appointment of former Msunduzi Municipality councillor, Thulani Xulu, as Chairperson of KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN) finance portfolio committee.
According to a media report published today (view here), Xulu has already been appointed to the position. This could not be further from the truth.
The appointment of Chairpersons within the Legislature requires a nomination and voting procedure involving all portfolio committee members. This includes the DA.
In the case of Xulu, the special meeting to appoint a replacement for former Chairperson, KK Nkosi, is fact only scheduled for 5pm tomorrow.
KZN’s Taliban-run ANC’s arrogance knows no bounds. To announce this election outcome – before it has taken place and includes all finance portfolio members – is in direct contravention of the Rules of the Legislature.
The ANC will no doubt refute this as it operates in a parallel universe – one where it can do no wrong. It is precisely due to this attitude that our province is on its knees while facing a dark and uncertain future.
The people of KZN will have the opportunity to change this downward trajectory when they go to the polls in 2024.
