The DA has called for a swift and decisive outcome in the Durban High Court case involving officials from KZN’s ANC-run Office of the Premier (OTP) and other departments, arrested in 2020 for fraud, corruption, and money laundering.
The case, which relates to R24million in catering tenders, involves the OTP Chief Financial Officer, the Head of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and seven others.
While the DA welcomes some progress in this case, it is regrettable that it has taken three years to get to this point.
This begs the question: How long will it be before those who are found guilty are dealt with appropriately? It also raises serious questions about what the OTP – and other departments involved – have done when it comes to securing other service providers.
The Premier’s Office is supposed to be the centre of good governance in our province. These allegations represent the worst kind of thievery – taking money away from the people of KZN.
The DA will continue to hold the Premier and her office, along with all other KZN government departments, to account over irregular and wasteful expenditure. Our provincial coffers can no longer be robbed.
