The DA in Endumeni Local Municipality is elated to announce that the municipality was able to save hundreds of thousands that could have been spent on the municipality’s Strategic Planning Session Programme that took place from 13 March to 15 March 2023.

In previous years, the municipality would spend hundreds of thousands on hiring a venue, providing accommodations, and catering for councillors and municipal officials. After engaging with the Municipal Manager, Mr Ntombela, he agreed to the DA’s proposal, and instead, the Dundee Museum Hall was used for this meeting.

With the Endumeni Local Municipality not having the funds for service delivery, this cost-cutting measure was taken in the interest of our municipality and its ratepayers. This meant that these funds could be reprioritized and spent on service delivery, including Eskom’s debt, and thereby avert any load reductions that could be implemented by Eskom for non-payment.

The Dundee Museum Hall utilized belongs to the Endumeni Municipality, thereby saving on hiring costs; there were also no travel claims as this was within our scope of jurisdiction.

Finally, this was the correct approach, as there were minimal cost implications, thus saving thousands of rands in monitoring expenditure. This sort of approach should be also considered by other Municipalities.
