The Democratic Alliance today woke to the sad news that DA member and eThekwini councillor, Tex Collins, has passed away after a short battle against cancer.

Tex was certainly a colourful character in the corridors of City Hall – a man who was not afraid to speak his mind. With Tex, there were no grey areas when it came to matters of principle and he often used his sharp wit to drive a point. One such example is his use of the phrase “it’s not worth a bucket of spit”.

Tex was indeed an institution within the DA, having served as a councillor for 27 years. He filled the role of eThekwini DA caucus leader and was also elected as a Deputy Chairperson in KZN. He fulfilled both roles with passion and determination.

Tex will be sorely missed. The DA and the city is poorer for his passing. On behalf of the DA, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Lou, his children, family and his friends.

Rest in peace our dear friend. You fought the good fight – you are indeed a legend.
