The Democratic Alliance (DA) in KwaZulu-Natal is satisfied that after our urgent intervention, the Nongoma municipality has fixed the lane lines error at the Nongoma town road. We call on the municipality to further ensure that this road is in a satisfactory condition. See a picture here.

After the DA in the province contacted the Municipal Manager, Mpumelelo Mnguni on Saturday after learning about the appalling state of the road, it was repaired on the same day.

While we welcome the swift action we are also appealing to the municipality to ensure complete maintenance of the road. It is unacceptable for a road in the middle of the town, which is our economic hub, to have potholes.

We are also calling on the municipality to revise their Supply Chain Management processes. The municipality cannot be coughing up hundreds of thousands of rands to contractors who do not provide quality services.

For a municipality to fail to ensure that a contractor did what they were paid to do is blatant mismanagement and tantamount to corruption. Such contractors should be forbidden from ever doing any work for the municipality again.

The DA is committed to fighting for quality service delivery. Residents of Nongoma deserve better than the current government. Only under a DA-led government resident will witness development and an overhaul in the appalling state of this municipality.
