The DA Youth in KwaZulu Natal has today written to the leadership of the ANC Youth League in KZN, IFP Youth Brigade and the EFF Youth requesting an urgent youth inspired meeting to deliberate on the shocking rise of violence by men against women and children in KZN.
In our plea, we have requested the respective leaders to put party politics aside, collectively discuss the scourge of violence facing our country and its people with a plan of bringing an end to this alarming violence. Now more than ever before, the need for a responsible and serious dialogue, and action, to end violence by men against women and children is inescapable.
This proposal follows the shocking and inhumane acts of violence by men against women and children. In particular, the gruesome incidents which have occurred recently which includes the rape and killing of Uyinene Mrwetyana, the rape and killing of Siam Lee, the killings of 4 children in Pinetown area and many other such incidents.
This behaviour reflects a deep-seated rupture in the social fabric of our country, which requires urgent action.
We will seek to lobby young leaders to collectively put pressure on the provincial government to review and rectify all efforts and awareness campaigns directed at the killing and abuse of women and children in our province. Our efforts must also seek to make substantial and collaborative proposals to government and law enforcement authorities, as well as every South African, to take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of their fellow South Africans.
We hope that our calls will be acceded to by our counterparts for the greater good of our society and our constituents.
