The Democratic Alliance Women’s Network (DAWN) in KwaZulu-Natal welcomes the long-overdue sentencing of Mohamed Ebrahim who kidnapped and murdered Miguel Louw in 2018.

Miguel Louw (9) disappeared in July 2018 where he was last seen walking home from school. CCTV footage taken at a nearby KFC showed Mohammed Ebrahim (43) with little Miguel on this fateful day.

Today, Ebrahim was sentenced to 25 years in prison at the Durban High Court.

The DA has been following this case, pleading for justice for little Miguel. Even though it took our judiciary almost three years to hand down this sentencing, we welcome it.

While this sentencing will not bring Miguel back, we hope that it will bring some closure to his family. For the province of KwaZulu-Natal which is leading the pack for crimes against women and children, this sentencing restores hope and sends a strong message to perpetrators of these crimes.

We have no place in our communities for criminals, they should rot in jail. Our women and children deserve to roam the streets freely without any fear of being attacked. As DAWN we will continue our fight to protect the most vulnerable and make them feel safe.
